Police constable and nurse charged with handling stolen police uniform 15.06.10

A police constable and a registered nurse have been charged by the ICAC for handling police uniform allegedly stolen from a police station.

D1, 50, a police constable, and D2, 32, a registered nurse of the Hospital Authority, each faces one count of handling stolen goods.

D2 faces an alternative charge of dealing with property known or believed to represent proceeds of an indictable offence, contrary to Section 25(1) of the Organised and Serious Crimes Ordinance.

The defendants will appear at Kowloon City Magistracy at 9:30 am on Thursday (June 17) for plea.

The case arose from a corruption complaint. Subsequent enquires revealed the above alleged offences.

The charges allege the defendants of dishonestly handling various items of police uniform, including four pairs of shoes, two pairs of trousers, four shirts, one cap and two belts, knowing or believing the same to be stolen goods.

The alleged offences took place between July 25 and September 18, 2008.

The alternative charge alleges that D2 had allegedly dealt with the above property, knowing that the said items were proceeds of an indictable offence.

The defendants have been granted ICAC bail, pending their court appearance on Thursday.
