Man faces court for making false report to the ICAC 23/06/2010

An unemployed man, charged by the ICAC, today (Wednesday) appeared at Shatin Magistracy on a charge of making a false report to the ICAC against a woman police constable, accusing the latter of soliciting a bribe from him.

The defendant, 32, pleaded not guilty to one count of making a false report to an ICAC officer, contrary to Section 13B(a) of the Independent Commission Against Corruption Ordinance.

Magistrate Mr Andrew Ma adjourned the case to July 21 for a pre-trial review. The defendant was granted cash bail.

The charge alleges that on November 26, 2009, the defendant knowingly made a false report to an ICAC officer, alleging that a woman police constable had solicited $500 from him on August 26, 2009 as an inducement to her abstaining from issuing a summons against him in relation to a traffic offence.

The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Matilda Wong.
